3 Bedroom Lighthouse Keeper's Cottage near Caithness, Highlands, Scotland
Part of the Noss Head Lighthouse Compound, this cosy cottage (once the home of the Principal Lightkeeper) overlooking the sea in the Highlands of Scotland offers quirky accommodation, stunning views in all directions and a truly unique setting for anyone in search of a stay in a lighthouse cottage.
Built about 60 years ago as the family home for the Principal Lightkeeper, the quirky accommodation has been recently refurbished to cater for lighthouse holidays and people in search of unusual places to stay, and is now kitted out with light airy rooms, organic fairtrade linen and all the contemporary amenities you could need. There is plenty of space inside for eating, relaxing and playing games, there are views across Sinclair bay to Duncansby Head and Orkney on one side and towards Elgin and the Cairngorms on the other, and nearby there are walking routes, ancient sites and traditional distilleries. This is a magical corner of Scotland and there’s nothing quite like living right by a lighthouse.
Bird and wildlife lovers can tour on land or by boat and keen hikers will be in heaven. Stately homes like Dunrobin Castle and the Castle of Mey are within easy reach, and the ruined Castle Sinclair Girnigoe can be explored on foot from the cottage. Other ancient sites include the Hill O’Many Stanes and Camster Cairns, and historians will enjoy the heritage centres at Castletown, Thurso and Wick. And foodies should visit the distilleries in Wick and Thurso, Rock Rose Gin in Dunnet Bay and the various local food producers of Caithness.
