Once the village smithy in its time, now sensitively converted, decorated throughout with paintings and ornaments, the Old Smithy takes you back to a time forgotten. The house has traditional thick stone walls, oak beams and flagstone floors, but is comfortable and homely, the perfect base for a holiday in the Brecon Beacons. The hidden gem here is the acre of country garden, with multiple seating and relaxing areas, benches and ample lawn space for children to run around and explore, this is a magical garden skirted by the River Honddu. The foodie town of Abergavenny, known as The Gateway to Wales, is 20 minutes by car with its castle, shops and many restaurants from dog friendly eateries to Michelin Guide restaurants. The historic town of Hay on Wye, a famous literary haven, is 30 minutes away with numerous indendent second hand book shops and gift stores. Or venture further afield to Crickhowell, Brecon or Hereford, all within the hour. Nearby attractions include Llanthony valley which has lots to offer. Cistercian Abbey which is just across the country lane. The crooked church at Cymyoy is well worth a look, as is the ancient Partrishow. The Llanthony Valley offers pony trekking in the National Park, Grange Trekking in Capel y Ffin offer treks for all abilities from March October. The ground floor entrance leads into the lounge with open fire, stone flagged floor, piano and selection of traditional games and many books.
