Romantic Mountain Cottage in Italy, Tuscany, Castiglione di Garfagnana
Set in a chestnut grove along an ancient mountain road, Casa Paladini is a very special retreat for artists, honeymooners, nature lovers and anyone looking to get away from the noise and stress of the modern world.
Built in 1904, the house has been lovingly restored while retaining all of its charming original features. Beamed ceilings, chestnut furniture, open fireplaces and stone walls abound, but you will also find all the facilities you need to remain cosy, comfortable and well-fed, not least an old-school pizza/bread oven. The real beauty of Casa Paladini lies in its tranquil and secluded setting – the necessary amenities are not far away but the only sounds you’ll hear at night are a nearby running stream and the hum of deer, crickets and wild boar going about their business. It’s blissful.
The cottage sits on an old road that connects the medieval walled town of Castiglione di Garfagnana with the high mountains villages and pastures above. The town, where you will find shops and restaurants, is a 30-minute walk down the mountain and through the forest, the village of Chiozza with its pizzeria is just 1.5km away, and several wonderful walking routes start directly from the cottage door. A 2km walk will take you to a medieval bridge and waterfall (great for swimming in the summer), and the alpine ski resort of Abetone is a 45-minute drive away. The cities of Lucca and Pisa are well worth a day trip.

Interior Details
The cottage has one main double bedroom, and a further space which can be used if you bring a child, as well as a bathroom with shower and bidet. The handmade kitchen features a wood fired stove and an original chestnut table, the living room has an open stone fireplace, and there is also a utility room with a washing machine.
Exterior Details
Just outside the entrance there is a large vegetable garden and there is a bread oven adjacent to the cottage. The CAI/Garfagnana Trekking trail from San Pellegrino to Castiglione passes right by the cottage. Parking is 250 metres away from the cottage (unless clients come with a four-wheel drive). We can help guests bring their suitcases on arrival and departure if required.
Conditions of Rental
Changeover day is Saturday unless otherwise requested. A deposit of 20% is due upon booking with the balance payable 6 weeks prior to arrival.
Further Info
An excellent mobile supermarket comes to within 300 metres of the cottage once a week.
